Here is a Lotus Flower Lantern that I designed for Lunar New Year decoration. The Lotus flower grows in muddy water, and the idea of a beautiful flower emerging unscathed, out of the sludgy mud, has made this flower a symbol of purity in Asian cultures. The Lotus also symbolizes luck, hence the popular phrase “Lucky Lotus”.
Interestingly, in researching the Lotus flower I’ve learned that the difference between the Lotus and a Water Lily is Lotus leaves and flowers grow above the water surface whereas Water Lilies stay at water level. The two flowers are very similar and my design is abstract enough that it can be interpreted as either flower.
This paper flower design is available in two versions in my shop, one with a hanging tassel and the other without a tassel. The Lotus is a significant symbol throughout many Asian cultures, and tassels are exclusive to the cultures more in the East so I wanted to offer this flower in two versions.
Without the tassel this lantern transforms into a beautiful, wispy flower that you can add to any decor.
You can also place this flower on a table as a pretty candlelight centerpiece.
Below are the parts that make up this Lotus lantern. Regardless of which version you purchase, the video tutorial (scroll down to link) is the same for both. For the flower without the tassel you can just skip the section in the video where I show you how to attach the tassel.
